Kingston pulled ahead to a two-score, third-quarter lead in boys varsity football and held on to win against East Jefferson Saturday in Bucc Country.
The Buccaneers jumped to a 12-0 advantage and returning a fumble for a 25-yard return in the third.
East Jefferson answered in the final stanza. EJ moved the ball downfield and scored on a 2-yard run by Lonnie Kenney and an extra point by Sean Botkin with 3:30 left.
East Jeffeson unfortunately did not get the ball back for a chance to win.
Chris Fair had a phenomenal night for East Jefferson with 15 tackles, followed by Bjorn Danann-Devas with 10.
Kyle Caldwell, Siaumau Auseuga, and Jesse Kithcart each had a sack in the game for the combined Port Townsend-Chimacum squad.
Trevor Wilson and Josh Davis each had an interception for East Jefferson while Anson Jones led the team in rushing with 92 yards on 20 carries.
“This was a hard fought game in which EJ never quit. I am very proud of how they played as a team and showed great sportsmanship,” said EJ Coach Patrick Gaffney.
The EJ JV game against Kingston ended in a scoreless tie, with sophomore Austen Hammer playing a standout game on both sides of the ball for East Jeff.
