Longtime local resident, Captain Kimberley “Kim” Taylor Aldrich, 62, passed away on September 17, 2018 following a brief but hard-fought battle with the recurrence of her cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held in Kim’s honor at 2 o’clock on Sunday, October 7th at the Northwest Maritime Center. Colorful clothing is recommended.

Born in California on June 26, 1956 to parents Barbara and Thomas Taylor, she moved to Port Townsend in the early 1980s, where she worked at the uptown printery and then in the real estate industry for a number of years before becoming a mortgage banker.

In 1991 she married David Aldrich, and gave birth to two daughters, Anne in 1991 and Chloe in 1993.

An avid sailor and outdoors person, Kim quickly became well known in the maritime community as a Sea Scout leader and advocate for getting kids out on boats, and as a board member of the Wooden Boat Foundation and Northwest Maritime Center.

Through a passion for giving back to her community, she was a Rotary member for several years and served as President of the Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce in 2011. Recently, she was on the board for Survive and Thrive, a strength after cancer program through Kitsap CrossFit.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Taylor, and is survived by her husband, David Aldrich, daughters Anne Aldrich and Chloe Stragier, step-daughters Hilary Aldrich and Maggie Robinson, and cat Junebug. Also her mother, Barbara Taylor, sisters Sidney Spencer and Linda Taylor Rogers, brothers Robert Dennis and Thomas Taylor.

In lieu of sending flowers, memorial donations may be made in Kim’s name to the Schooner Martha Foundation and the Survive and Thrive program.

Kim has impacted many lives and is loved by many. She will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.
