PlayFest 24, the annual festival of new plays, will lay out a feast for lovers of theater, writing and conversation at the Key City Public Theatre, starting with “Locals Weekend” March 6-8, when five one-act productions and two one-act readings take to the stage.
All these showings are written by Jefferson County playwrights, including “Adults” by Angela Gyurko, “Timeless” by Wynne Steven, “First Mountain” by D.D. Wigley and “Oh My! God?” by Jim Gormely.
The “Festival Weekend” follows March 13-15, with two full-length plays — “Upon This Rock” by Chris Hawley and “Blue Velvet” by PlayFest’s featured playwright, A.P. Andrews of Los Angeles.
Activities range from a free playwriting workshop on the morning of Saturday, March 14, to the “Working Drafts” works in progress that evening, with a playwriting intensive on Sunday, March 15, plus one-act readings and productions and open conversations about it all, throughout the weekend.
Andrews will lead the two playwriting workshops. A graduate of New York University’s Playwrights Horizons Theater School, he’s had his works on stages across the United States and in London.
Tickets range from free to $15, and are available up to an hour before start time.
PlayFest passes covering all events, except the playwriting intensive, are $35, while Writer’s Passes, which include all events plus the intensive, are $95.
