Key City Public Theatre (KCPT) earned three wins from eight nominations at the 2025 Sound on Stage Awards, including recognition for its new musical, “Wild Man of the Wynoochee,” and a notable performance in Shakespearean drama.
“Wild Man of the Wynoochee” received five nominations, including Best Original Production and Original Music Composition for Linda Dowdell and Jessica Welsh, as well as Best Direction (Musical) for Brendan Chambers, Achievement in Sound Design (Musical) for Taylor Thomas Marsh, and Performance by a Lead Actor (Musical) for Casey Raiha.
From these, KCPT took home two awards: Original Music Composition for Dowdell and Welsh, and Achievement in Sound Design (Musical) for Thomas Marsh.
Dowdell currently serves as the resident musical director at Key City Public Theatre.
KCPT’s third win was for Performance by a Lead Actor in a Play, awarded to Geoffrey Simmons for his portrayal of Leontes in Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale,” adapted and directed by Denise Winter.
The theater’s additional nominations included Best Original Production for “Carmelita” by Ana Maria Campoy, and Best Theatre Experience, which Key City won last year in 2024.
“These honors place Key City Public Theatre among the region’s most respected institutions, standing proudly alongside the Village Theatre, 5th Avenue Theatre, ACT and Seattle Rep,” said Kat Agudo, audience services manager for KCPT. “The recognition from the Sound on Stage Awards underscores KCPT’s unwavering commitment to artistic excellence.”
“We are thrilled and humbled to be recognized among such exceptional company,” KCPT Executive Artistic Director Denise Winter said. “These awards reflect the passion, dedication and immense talent of our entire creative team.
Congratulations to our theatre colleagues throughout the region on their awards!”
KCPT representatives extended their gratitude to the theater’s patrons, donors, artists, volunteers and “the entire arts community” for making Key City’s achievements possible.
“With nearly two decades of leadership from Denise Winter, KCPT continues to deliver bold, meaningful theatre,” Agudo said. “Fueled by this recognition, the company looks ahead to a new season filled with innovative and thought-provoking productions that reflect the heart and voice of the community.”
