Jonathan (Jack) was born and raised in Port Townsend, and graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1950. He was employed at Crown Zellerbach when he met and married Effie Ross in 1951. Jack enlisted in the US Army in 1952, and daughter Debra was born later that year. In 1954, he returned to Port Townsend to begin family life with Effie and Debie. 1958 brought son Jonathan James, Jr. and a new job with Prudential Insurance. Promotions and transfers moved his family to Seattle, Poulsbo, Los Angeles, Kelso, Portland, and back to Seattle where Jack retired in 1994.

Retirement didn’t stick, so he found a fun job with Avis Car Rentals. Soon, he was opening new stores and handling all personnel matters. He retired again to do some traveling. After several years of spending winters in Apache Junction, AZ, and summers at home in Orting, WA, Jack became manager of their community in Orting. He served as manager until his third, and final, retirement in January of 2019.

Jack enjoyed woodworking projects in his shop, reworking landscaping in the yard and community, and was an avid reader. Doing nothing was never his forte. Survived by his wife of 67 years, Effie, daughter Debie Farra (John), son Jay (Teri), grandchildren Brianne Bannwarth (Tom), Ty Gastfield, great grandchildren Aiden and Carter Bannwarth, extended family and many friends, he will be greatly missed.

A service will be held on September 24, 2019 at 2:00, at The Inn at Arbor Village, 24121 116th Ave SE, Kent, Washington.
