John Warren Long Sr.

John Warren Long Sr. died peacefully on March 15, 2020 at the age of 93, with his wife and close family near him.

He leaves his wife, Leona (Russ) Long with whom he shared 73 years of marriage.

He is also survived by his daughters, Trudy (Joe) Kronenberg, Cathleen (Mike) Bingaman, his son John Jr. grandchildren Tracy Ross and Amy Kronenberg, great-grandchildren Loren and Cole Ross, and another great-grandchild on the way.

John graduated from Kent High School in 1945 and that small class later became known as the 45’rs RV Group. He left school and joined the U.S. Navy where he was a pharmacist’s Mate.

After discharge from the Navy he came back to the Port Townsend area where his parents Mildred and James Bunce lived and he worked at the Crown Zellerbach Mill and the Ford Garage. This is where he met and married Leona and they had their first daughter, Trudy.

John’s desire for further education took him and his young family to Ellensburg where he attended college. He finished his degree in Pharmacy at the University of Washington, and graduated with honors as a member of the Rho Chi Society.

John enjoyed a long career and became the owner of his own pharmacy in the north Seattle

area. With his wife and now three children, they settled in a new home in Edmonds, Washington and enjoyed a vacation home on Marrowstone Island, which later became their permanent home upon retirement in 1992.

John and Leona lead very active lives; having belonged to two RV camping groups, and they took numerous trips including celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with the whole family in Maui.

John’s wishes were to be buried in the family plot at Sound View Cemetery on Marrowstone Island, Nordland, Washington, with only a graveside service.
