John died unexpectedly at home on October 13 at the age of 56.

He was born in Seattle to Jack and Frankie Freitas on November 28, 1960. He grew up in Port Townsend where he graduated from Port Townsend High School, excelling in track and football. He was always proud to be a Port Townsend Redskin.

John married Leslie Westergaard on January 19, 1985. They were blessed with 2 sons, Adam and Alek. They moved the family to the farm in 1990.

John devoted his life to his family, always making personal sacrifices for them. He took pride in the fact that he never missed a football, basketball or baseball game when his sons were playing. He was always in the stands or sidelines supporting his sons and their friends.

He spent many years coaching the Chimacum Seahawks Youth football team. John loved to be out on the water fishing, crabbing and shrimping with Leslie and the boys. He spent many summers with his family boating on Lake Chelan, his favorite vacation spot.

John spent 10 years as a volunteer fireman for the Port Townsend Fire Department. He worked over 30 years as a Crew Chief for the City of Port Townsend. He was ready for a change and embarked on a new career as a Longshoreman for ILWU Local 51.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents James and Kathryn Deleo, his father Jack Freitas and mother Frankie Olin and his brother James Freitas. He is survived by his wife, Leslie, sons Adam and Alek and sisters Kathryn (Dick) Maki and Cecelia (Don) Bracey and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to Port Townsend Redskins Boosters or Big Blue Boosters. Funeral was held October 28th at Saint Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Private burial will take place at a later date.
