Jim Dickgieser was born to Milo J. Dickgieser and Ilda M. (Whittaker) Dickgieser on Feb. 7, 1936, in Olympia, Washington. He passed from this world on Feb. 23, 2023. Jim spent his early years in Yelm, Rochester, and Port Angeles. In his early teen-aged years, the family moved to the Port Hadlock area where they spent several years. Jim finally settled alongside Tarboo Bay some 50 years ago.

In his early adulthood, Jim worked for Cotton Brothers in their mill and then naturally moved into logging to form Dickgieser Brothers Logging with his brother, Milo. Jim and Milo continued logging until much of the woods were shut down. They then moved on to road construction and repair. Finally, when that avenue closed, Jim was of retirement age. However, never one to remain idle, Jim continued to do small jobs for private property owners well into his 70s.

Jim never lost his desire to stay busy. He maintained his home property as well as an extensive vegetable garden. Just three months ago Jim was pruning apple trees and lamenting that he was not as fast as he used to be.

Jim lived his life on his terms, stated his opinion, was a consummate storyteller, and was always the "rock," taking care of those he loved. Jim will be greatly missed.

Jim was predeceased by both of his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Milo and Joan Dickgieser; and his sister, Donna Brunetti. Jim is survived by his brother, Lonnie Crumley (Brett) and their sons, Jesse (Debra) and Brett; his niece, Sherrie Shold (Bob) and their sons, Geoff (Aimee) and Gregg; his niece, Denise Wilkins (Steve) and their daughters, Heather and Anna; his nephew, John Brunetti (Angela) and their son, Bryce (Julius); his special friend, Beth Nelson and her daughter, Claudia (Eric); and numerous great, great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Jim expressed a wish that if anyone desired to do a remembrance, he would be pleased if it would be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, online, or by mail at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Saturday, March 18, beginning at 1:30 p.m., with a lunch gathering at Quilcene Masonic Hall, 170 Herbert St., Quilcene.
