Jefferson Healthcare restricts visitation amid rise in COVID-19 infections

Jefferson Healthcare began limiting visitations due to a high prevalence of COVID-19 throughout Jefferson County.

All departments operated by the district will only allow visitation under certain special circumstances, according to an announcement this week from Jefferson Healthcare.

The purpose of the restriction, according to hospital district officials, is to curb the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses.

Special circumstances, according to Jefferson Healthcare, are defined as:

• Patients with altered mental status, developmental delays or who display disruptive behavior and require the company of a caregiver;

• Minor patients may be accompanied by a caregiver;

• Patients who require the presence of a support person to help navigate complex medical decision-making;

• Patients with disabilities.

Children under 16 will also not be allowed to visit any department.
