Jacob D. Stokes has joined Jefferson Healthcare as the organization’s new director of laboratory services.

Stokes comes to Port Townsend from Phoenix, Arizona, and hospital officials said he chose Jefferson Healthcare to serve a community hospital in a small rural community.

As the director, he will oversee essential in-patient and out-patient lab services including Jefferson Healthcare’s in-house COVID testing.

In recent weeks, the laboratory department has produced COVID self-swab collection kits to make it easier for individuals with mild COVID-like symptom to test and isolate.

The kits are created and processed by lab staff, and Jefferson Healthcare has been distributing more than 100 kits every day.

Stokes earned his bachelor of science degree at Wilmington National University and has 23 years of laboratory experience, as well as a medical technologist certification.
