The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 252 calls for service between Friday, Dec. 30 and Friday, Jan. 6. Below are selected reports.

At 11:29 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3 in Quilcene, a county recreation worker reported the theft of the entrance gates to Lake Leland Campground.

Two cattle gates, each about 12 feet wide, went missing sometime Saturday.

At 6:59 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 in Quilcene, a case of malicious mischief was reported at JeffCom’s radio tower on the Coyle.

The fence for the tower site was cut open. It was unknown exactly when the damage occurred, but it appeared to have happened in the last six months.

Nothing else appeared to be taken or disturbed.

At 9:21 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 in Port Ludlow, a woman said someone nearby was shooting a firearm and she was lying on the floor of her home.

She said she could hear shooting from the woods nearby, and she thought they were shooting at her vehicle.

The woman was familiar to law enforcement as she had been the subject of an earlier call about a neighbor dispute and barking dogs.

A deputy found no evidence of a weapon being discharged.

The woman said she had video footage to back up her claim and said she had sent it to the deputy’s phone before he arrived at the scene. This was later determined to not be true.

The woman was invited to the sheriff’s office to review video footage provided by the woman.

Three deputies reviewed the footage on the woman’s laptop, and no evidence of harassment was observed. There was also no evidence from the night of the call.

The woman left, upset that deputies were not going to arrest a suspect that night.

She was asked to provide a written statement but refused.

At 1:32 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5 in Port Townsend, a Jefferson Healthcare employee made a mandatory report of an animal bite.

A man came in for treatment after he said he was bitten by his own cat.

At 2:01 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5 in Port Hadlock, a woman reported the theft of a wallet from her car.

She said the wallet was last scene the day before, when she was at a grocery store in Port Townsend.

The woman said she had left her vehicle unlocked.

The wallet was described as pink and silver with flowers on it. It contained identification cards, credit cards, and $50 in cash.
