The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to 333 calls for service between Friday, Sept. 3 and Friday, Sept. 10. Below are selected reports.

At 1:13 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 in Chimacum, a caller said he was scammed into buying $2,000 in Walmart gift cards.

The resident got a call saying someone needed his help, and was told to buy gift cards. A deputy advised it was a common scam. The person’s bank and credit card company was advised of the fraud.

At 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 in Port Ludlow, a man said he saw a fishing boat near Shine Tidelands State Park that appeared to be taking on water.

There was no one aboard the boat.

The caller said he had seen the brown-and-gray vessel the day before, but when driving past on the way home, the boat looked to be sitting low in the water.

A deputy went to the scene and did not find any boats that appeared to be in distress or sinking.

At 3:05 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 near Point Wilson, a man said there was a sailor in a boat nearby that appeared to be struggling.

The man seen in the sailboat appeared to be intoxicated.

The vessel appeared to be drifting, and the man aboard was not wearing a life jacket.

Both county boats were out of the water for repairs and could not respond. The Coast Guard was notified.

At 8:07 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 in Port Hadlock, a woman wanted her son removed from her home. She said he had just stolen $400.

The son was outside the home.

Another party got on the phone and said the original caller was having a panic attack.

The dispute between mother and son continued to escalate and he told her, “It’s none of your business and I’m sick of you.”

Juvenile services were called due to the son’s prior history of problematic behavior.

The son admitted to taking $200 from his mother to buy a phone.

An investigation revealed he had spent $100 for a phone, but when asked where he spent the other $100, he would not say.

The son was arrested for third-degree theft.

At 11:14 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 in Port Hadlock, a black, full-size fat-tire bicycle was stolen from a carport during the night.

Another bike was found in the bushes next to the house.

The carport was not locked but the resident said someone would have had to intentionally walk into the carport to get access to the bicycle.

At 1:42 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 in Port Hadlock, a man called from a gas station to say he had been assaulted at Beaver Valley Storage. He said he was hit in the back and kicked in the face over a job he had been asked to do, and he gave authorities the name of his attacker.

A deputy contacted the victim and found he had a bloody nose and upper lip. He said he had been pushed to the ground from behind and then attacked.

Statements were taken from the victim and a witness. Charges were forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
