The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 233 calls for service between Friday, Feb. 17 and Friday, Feb. 24. Below are selected reports.
At 9:03 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 in Nordland, a caller reported being threatened. Someone called his work place and claimed the employee had a rape case in his history. Messages had also been posted on social media.
The worker was told to block the person making the claims on social media and apply for an anti-harassment order.
The caller was also given the number of the Child Protective Services office in Seattle so the caller could contact a supervisor. The caller said the other person’s spouse had been abusing her position with the agency for her own personal gain.
At 11:58 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 in Quilcene, a caller reported ongoing issues with a transient reportedly living on a nearby property.
The homeless person was known to law enforcement, and had a long history of camping on land owned by the Department of Natural Resources.
The issue had come up a year earlier; the man had a well-established camp that he visited during nice weather for the past 15-plus years.
At 2:39 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 in Port Ludlow, a woman said she was scammed via email.
A person obtained her personal bank information and Social Security number.
She said she was defrauded of $38,000 by a person with a Middle Eastern or Indian accent who identified himself as Chris Williams.
The person had contacted the woman after he was unsuccessful in accessing her Merrill Lynch account, but after a week, had stopped contacting her.
