Jefferson County Sheriff's Log | "Are you in there?"

Posted

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 243 calls for service between Saturday, Feb. 26 and Friday, March 4. Below are selected reports.

At 12:32 a.m. Tuesday, March 1 in Forks, a burglary in progress was reported at Kalaloch Lodge in Olympic National Park.

A woman said someone was at the door knocking, and then started banging at the door, while trying to get inside.

The person outside sounded like a man, the caller added, and wasn’t sure if he was alone.

She said she could hear the man saying, “Are you in there?”

A park ranger and a deputy responded.

A man was found in a truck outside the cabin and was arrested and taken to the jail in Forks.

Authorities determined the man was the woman’s husband, and had followed her to the national park.

He was taken into custody for disorderly conduct, investigation of domestic violence, and attempted burglary.

At 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 1 in Port Hadlock, a caller reported a suspicious man who was behind the caller’s house. The resident had chased him away previously, but now his girlfriend was home alone and the man had come back.

The unwanted man returned and was outside a window to the home. He was described as wearing a brown sweatshirt and had scruffy, dirty hair.

The girlfriend put her boots on and went outside to look, but the man was gone. A neighbor said he had chased the man with a firearm back across the creek to the Irondale side of the stream.

Other calls came in from residents about the man, with one resident worried that he was “casing the joint.”

Deputies conducted multiple patrols but could not find the man.

At 4:02 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 in Port Hadlock, a caller said she and her mother were just assaulted.

The caller said the suspect was her aunt’s boyfriend, and she thought he had guns.

The caller said she had tried to leave in a vehicle but was punched in the face by the man and it broke her glasses.

She was not sure of the address and was not familiar with the area; she said she and her mother had come from Kingston to give her aunt a birthday cake and a present.

The women declined medical aid. A deputy contacted the pair, and the caller said a boyfriend was on his way to assault the suspect.

A detective tried to call the boyfriend to say that was not a good idea, but the boyfriend did not answer the phone.

The pair were advised to call 911 if he showed up.

At 4:29 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 in Port Hadlock, a possible burglary was reported at a vacant A-frame home.

A neighbor who walks around the neighborhood said the home had been empty for some time, but had noticed a window pane in the door was broken.

The neighbor said the resident of the home had moved out of the county to care for an ill parent.

A deputy determined a burglary at the home had been reported in the past, and spiderwebs on the door indicated no one had been in the residence recently.
