One vacancy has been filled, but a new vacancy has since popped up for the Jefferson County Library Board of Trustees.

The board has seen several resignations during the pandemic.

Sylvia White stepped down in January to spend more time traveling and seeing family, but agreed to continue serving until a new trustee was found.

That opening, along with a seat coming up for renewal held by Trustee Ellen Hargis, was posted in March. 

Hargis wanted to continue on the board and her reappointment was approved in April.

White, meanwhile, “stayed on” while the board waited for the pandemic to ease off enough to allow for in-person interviews and board meetings by June.

That never happened, however, so White’s resignation was made official in June and a search for a new trustee was launched.

Four candidates applied for the position, and three were interviewed (via Zoom) in mid-July.

At the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners meeting last week, the board appointed the trustee’s pick for the position, Joan Chapdelaine. 

Chapdelaine will serve the unexpired part of White’ term through April 2024.

One trustee position remains open. In early July, Trustee Tom Hagen submitted his resignation, citing health reasons.

The library is now looking to fill that position, and applications will be accepted until the end of August.
