Jefferson County Historical Society presents Archaeology Talks

Expert offers deep dive into middens

Posted

The Jefferson County Historical Society presents Archaeology Talks at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21.

Presenter Gary Wessen will share original research that summarizes radiocarbon dates from shell midden sites in western Washington. These dates could tell us about changes in the pre-contact human population and the antiquity of maritime adaptations.

Wessen, an anthropology scholar and archaeological consultant, will describe his findings and examine possible interpretations.

The talk will provide discussions on shell midden sites and on how radiocarbon dating works. It is intended for a general audience, rather than a professional one.

The talk will be hosted via Zoom. Find out more about the event and how to register at www.jchsmuseum.org.
