Community garage sale possible for fall

After much consideration and discussion, the Jefferson County Fair Association has decided to cancel the 2020 Jefferson County Fair, originally scheduled for Aug. 7-9, saying it serves the best interests of the health and safety of the fair and the surrounding community.

This marks the first time since World War II that the fair has been not held in a given year, and fair manager Sue McIntire told the public she would miss seeing it come together as a community on the fairgrounds.

“Rest assured we will be back in 2021, stronger than ever,” said McIntire, adding that next year’s fair will run from Aug. 13-15.

McIntire advised the public to check the fair’s website at jeffcofairgrounds.com and its Facebook page for upcoming virtual events “to keep the fair’s spirit alive.”

The Jefferson County Fair Association has also canceled its community garage sale and flea market, originally scheduled for June 27.

McIntire said the garage sale might be rescheduled for this fall, with a date to be determined, while the 2021 community garage sale and flea market are scheduled for March 20, 2021.

McIntire added the Jefferson County Holiday Fair is still slated for Nov. 7 and 8.

“We appreciate the support of our Jefferson County Fair volunteers, exhibitors and our community as we move through this very difficult time,” McIntire said.
