The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 278 calls for service between July 25 and July 31. Below are several notable incidents.

At 7:58 a.m. July 25, police were notified by Adult Protective Services that they were investigating an alleged incident of fraud. The family of a 24-year-old Quilcene man claimed he was being financially exploited by his mother, a drug user who associated with people known to be drug users.

A report was filed.

The investigation is ongoing.

At 10:25 a.m. July 25, a theft was reported at a vacation cabin near Green Mountain Lane in Brinnon.

The caller said someone had stolen a chainsaw and television from the residence sometime in the past year. The cabin was owned by his friend, the man said, who lived elsewhere and had not been there in at least a year. He had been checking on the cabin for her when he discovered the theft.

There are no suspects.

A report was filed.

At 5:01 p.m. July 25, police were called about a vicious animal in Nordland.

In an RV park near the 9000 block of Flagler Road, a 63-year-old man claimed his neighbor’s dog, a German shepherd, chased his dog into his home and tried to attack it. The man said the attack came as he and his neighbor were arguing and that the German shepherd was not leashed, which is required inside the park.

Police said it was ultimately decided the incident would be resolved internally by those involved.

A report was filed.

At 12:39 a.m. July 27, a Chimacum property owner called police to report a group of protesters on their property without permission.

Police were told the group was at an intersection protesting “Killer Cops.”

Upon arrival, police found only one man with a bicycle who said he was waiting for a ride and said he did not know he could not be on the property. He had no sign and police were unable to verify there had been a group present.

A report was filed.

At 3:03 p.m. July 28, police undertook a search for a missing hunter in Forks.

A 38-year-old man had gone hunting near the Queets River and Sam River and was supposed to have returned by 8 a.m. He had sent a text message to his father saying he’d been late, but when he still hadn’t come home by that afternoon the older man called police to report his son was missing.

Police eventually located the hunter near Mile 5 of Forest Service Road 2180. He said that although he’d been hunting in the area before, he wasn’t overly familiar with the terrain and somehow had gotten turned around and lost.

The man was unharmed.

At 2:47 p.m. July 30, police issued a warning to a Port Angeles man who was speeding in Quilcene.

Police pulled over the man, who was driving a Chrysler 300, and also issued a warning to his passenger, who was riding with feet out the window.

At 7:32 a.m. July 31, a 34-year-old Port Hadlock resident called police to report someone had stolen his 2010 Chrysler Town & Country.

The theft had occurred, he said, sometime after 11 p.m.

About eight hours later, however, the man called back to say he’d located his car. Apparently, a friend had borrowed it without his knowledge.

The case was closed.

At 3:19 p.m. July 31, a 79-year-old Sequim man called police to request increased traffic patrols near his residence, saying dump trucks from a Port Angeles company were speeding there throughout the day.

A deputy was placed at the scene to monitor traffic, during which time he spotted only one truck, which was going within the speed limit.

Police said they receive such requests about once a week.

At 9:25 p.m. July 31, a 37-year-old Brinnon man was arrested for assault and malicious mischief.

Police received a call about an unwanted person at a private residence, where they discovered a woman who was refusing to leave. She said she’d been assaulted by the man, and slapped so hard her glasses broke.

Police learned the two had been dating for seven years before splitting up about a year ago. The man had invited the woman to his house, she said, to see his dog. However, when she’d arrived she found the dog was not there and they began to argue.

At 2 a.m. Aug. 2, a Port Townsend man was arrested in Port Ludlow for driving under the influence.

The man, 19, was driving a Mazda pickup truck and seen swerving dramatically. Upon being questioned, police said he smelled strongly of alcoholic beverages and admitted to having consumed 12 beers.

His BAC was found to be .108.

At 6:10 p.m. Aug. 2, a suspicious vehicle, a black Ford Mustang, was reported in the 9000 block of Beaver Valley Road in Chimacum. The license plate was found to be expired and the driver’s license suspended.

The driver, 61, of Port Hadlock, became angry when questioned, insisting his license was not suspended. A deputy attempted to explain the situation to him, but the man became agitated and animated, shouting over the officer and insisting he’d done nothing wrong.

When asked to step out of the car, the man did so very aggressively and demanded he be allowed to make a phone call. He tried to step away from the deputy when informed he was under arrest. Police ultimately found suspected methamphetamine on him and additional drug paraphernalia in his car.

After being taken into custody, the man began striking and kicking the inside of the police vehicle’s door, bending the frame.

The man’s car was impounded.
