James Floyd Headley passed away peacefully at his home in Port Townsend on Jan. 13, 2021.

James grew up in the Port Townsend/Irondale areas and attended both Port Townsend and Chimacum schools. James worked for Edwin Udd at the Irondale sawmill, worked for the Forestry Service building and maintaining trails, before working for Pete Anderson as a logger.

He was paralyzed in a logging accident in 1975, but spent the last 45 years of his life doing all the things he loved including, but not limited to, driving, camping, fishing, and hunting. He was a man who loved to tell stories about his experiences to anyone who was willing to listen. James was thoughtful, kind, caring and is someone who will be greatly missed.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Marion Headley; his brother Emory Luke; and sisters Dorthory Taylor and Shirley Clark. He is survived by his brother Elmer Headley Sr. (Russea) of Irondale; his sons Tom Headley of Port Townsend, Jim Headley of Sequim, Jay Headley of Port Townsend; daughters Tammie Altemose (Erik) of Port Townsend, and Tonia Houle (Joe) of Lake Bay; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His family would like to thank his caregivers from OlyCAP for the exceptional care they gave.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
