‘It’s your responsibility’

With the election year upon us, I wanted to write a note to wish the candidates the best of luck in running a fair and ethical campaign.

I did want to add a request to all those running that they advertise responsibly and legally.

Years past (and already this year) campaign signs are being irresponsibly placed in random areas throughout the city and county. These include areas within the city limits that are designated by city regulations as areas ineligible for such signage.

Simply put, the regulations against such use is meant to prevent our beautiful area from becoming trashy.

Likewise, within the county, there are already too many signs placed along highways and roads. While the county may not have the same regulations as within the city limits, it shows you lack respect for us and the area.

Really, who will remove all the trash that litters Jefferson County after the election season has come to an end?

When we see signs ethically placed, it shows that the candidate has actually put effort in to their campaign and has actually spoken or reached out to the land owner to obtain permission to advertise on their property. Additionally, it shows that you have actually done some work to get support for your platform.

It’s your responsibility. Too many signs shows desperation.

If you find your signs littering the county, please be responsible for your campaign and remove them.
