‘Visions of Winter’ draws the eye in Port Ludlow

Port Ludlow Artists’ League is showcasing the work of eight league artists for “Visions of Winter,” a collection of works in acrylic, oil, watercolor, collage and photography that is to be on display through January.

The show kicks off Dec. 14 with a reception open to the community, 4-6 p.m. at the gallery and adjacent bank, both located at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow.

Artists Fran Bodman, Carol Durbin, Nicole Frenzl, Mary Lynn Laker, Gail S. Larson, Wanda Mawhinney, Cathy Thomas and Patricia Webber are to be on hand to share their winter visions.

Volunteer for ‘Nude with Violin’

Ludlow Village Players are recruiting volunteers for the group’s spring play, Noël Coward’s “Nude with Violin,” showing April 6 through 9.

An orientation meeting is set for 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 6 at the home of Susan Abrahamson, 247 Machias Loop, Port Ludlow.

Time commitments range from helping out during performances only to the full three-months of preparation for opening night.

Volunteers are needed to help in costumes, set building, set decor, makeup, props, technical support (sound, music lighting, special effect), prompter, stagehands, publicity (writers, posters, advertising, programs, graphics), ushers, refreshment committee and more.

Bread and Gravy dishes up blues, more

Husband-and-wife duo Jess and Stephanie Doenges, known as Bread and Gravy, plays a matinee Concert in the Woods at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18 at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, Coyle.

Formed in 2014, Bread and Gravy performs a variety of music styles including (but not limited to) blues, originals, classic rock, standards, Americana, contemporary and even one disco tune. Classically trained and born on the Olympic Peninsula, Stephanie sings lead vocals and plays guitar and more.

Jess (piano and spoken word) is originally from New York City. A self-taught pianist, he also brings his dry humor to the show. “He’ll make you laugh and make you cry, and then make you laugh while you’re still crying,” said one fan.

Seascape Mindscape

Andrea K. Lawson’s exhibit “Seascape Mindscape” is to be on display at Pippa’s Real Tea in Port Townsend through Dec. 31.

The show juxtaposes intimate landscapes depicting the energy of sea and sky with internal landscapes of the human brain, the artist said. The brain series is painted in acrylic, and the seascapes are oil on canvas.

Lawson said she will donate 50 percent of painting sales to the Standing Rock Tribe DAPL fund. Pippa’s Real Tea is located at 636 Water St. and is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
