Free classes celebrate decade of dancing Oct. 21

Madrona MindBody Institute celebrates a decade of movement Saturday, Oct. 21 with an open house and a day of free classes.

The public is invited to meet and play with Madrona’s community, starting with an all-levels yoga class at 8:30 a.m. at the 110-year-old gymnasium at Fort Worden. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 45-minute Nia “moving arts fitness” classes are held on the hour, led by Madrona cofounder Allison Dey.

For the kids, a puppet show and fun activities are presented at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Free chair massages by Deborah Wood and Jet Mullen, and henna art by Cheri Croff and Lelah Wright are offered from noon to 3:30 p.m.

The community also is invited to enter a raffle to win unlimited class passes, massage sessions and more. The open house culminates with cake at 4 p.m. Raffle tickets are to be drawn at that time.

$366,250 median price of homes sold in September

The median price of homes sold in Jefferson County in September 2017 was $366,250, up 4.2 percent from the median price of homes sold in September 2016 of $351,505, according to the Northwest Multiple Listing Service (NMLS).

(The median price means half the homes sold for above that price and half were sold for below that price.)

There were 72 homes sold in 2017, up 18 percent from the 61 homes sold in September 2016.

There is now roughly a four-month supply of homes for sale in Jefferson County, according to the NMLS.

Shellfish biz, farm are Edg3 finalists

Two Jefferson County businesses have made it to the finals in Kitsap Bank’s fourth annual Edg3 Fund Small Business Competition.

Set & Drift Shellfish in Port Ludlow and SpringRain Farm & Orchard in Chimacum were chosen in part by a public vote to move on to compete in the final, live phase of the competition on Nov. 16 at the Kitsap Conference Center in Bremerton. The winner is to be awarded $20,000.

Other businesses that made it to the finals are Morel Compass Mushrooms and Company in Port Angeles, Bushel & Barrel Ciderhouse in Poulsbo and Home Made Cafe in Port Orchard.

Kitsap Bank is to give an additional $5,000 cash prize to the one business in the semifinalist pool that best embodies the spirit of community.

The mission of the Edg3 Fund is to recognize entrepreneurs dedicated to growing their community in three ways: economically, socially and environmentally.

L&I office now in Sequim

Port Townsend residents who need assistance from the state Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) can now seek that help at a new L&I office in Sequim. The L&I office in Port Angeles was closed in September, according to L&I public affairs spokesperson Matthew Erlich.

“For Port Townsend–area residents, it means customer service is a little closer than previously – when we had our Port Angeles office,” said Erlich in an email.

The new office is located at 542 W. Washington St., Suite C in Sequim.
