I dream of parades

I am grateful that this is happening in the growing brightness of early spring, not the gathering gloom of late fall.

My impression is that dogs are happier than they've ever been. More companionship at home, more walks every day - what could be better?

My guess is that break-ins and burglaries are at an all-time low.

My guess is that there were fewer April Fool's Day pranks pulled this year than ever before.

Let's all learn how to communicate with semaphore flags. This will help us converse safely from porch to porch or as we pass each other on the street.

I imagine a large brass band slowly parading down Lawrence Street. Seventy-six trombones, anyone? As if by magic, each marcher stays 10 feet away from the next. How do they do it? How do they stay in step? How do they stay in time? And yet, they do. We all line the street to watch and cheer. It takes a long time for such a spaced-out band to pass, so it takes a lot of watching and a lot of cheering.

And amazingly, we all stay 10 feet apart. At the street intersections, the crowds go back four or five rows–which is to say, a full block deep. How did we all know how to arrive and place ourselves so? And yet, we did. And everyone disperses in equal comfort and safety.

Well ... I can dream, can't I?
