House Rep. Kilmer pass $5.5 million bill for JeffCo infrastructure, sewer projects

The U.S. House of Representatives passed new funding championed by Rep. Derek Kilmer to support an affordable housing project and sewer infrastructure in Jefferson County.

The newly-approved bill includes $2.5 million to assist the city of Port Townsend with installing a new sewer pump station for the Evans Vista neighborhood — a planned affordable community-based development of 100 to 150 mixed-income housing units on 14.4 acres south of Rainier Street. Another $3 million included in the bill would help construct pressure sewer collection lines and publicly-owned grinder pump connections on key streets in Port Hadlock, enabling further growth for developments like affordable housing, small businesses, and a supermarket.

After being passed by the House on Wednesday, July 20, the bill (Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act) must be approved by the U.S. Senate and signed into law by President Joe Biden before local municipalities could receive the federal funds.
