Holiday Lights: Bright spot on Blanche in Hadlock

A fan-favorite tiny house, located on dead-end Blanche Avenue in Port Hadlock and belonging to John and Anna McConaghy, is again bright with lights.

“We’ve been doing it about 20 years,” she said. “It’s probably our last because I’ve got some health issues.”

The decorating routine, which has grown a bit each year, takes about four weeks, John said. “We start early, but it’s usually the day before Christmas when we finish.”

This year, “we borrowed the neighbor’s yard,” John quipped.

Anna said they use two 30-foot squeegee poles “and a lot of patience” to hang 5,000 lights on their front-yard tree. “This is the tree when we can tell if we are going to stay married or not,” she said.

Anna’s birthday is Dec. 24. At age 5, three siblings returned from foster care and “Mom put up lights. That’s my first memory of being home. I love the lights.”

She added, “We do this because we like to share with everyone.”
