Find your heart’s content at Wonderland Masquerade Ball

Fall in love at the second annual Wonderland Masquerade Ball, hosted this Valentine’s Day weekend by Key City Public Theatre.

The event, featuring rock and soul band FreddyPink, is set for Saturday, Feb. 11. Dinner is served at 6 p.m., followed by the ball at 7 p.m. at the Commons at Fort Worden.

Guests are invited to dress to their heart’s content. “This is the event where you can dress to the nines, or tens or elevens if you so choose,” event organizers said.

“Mask or no, dance the night away at this masquerade with a sweet and savory dessert bar, champagne toast, memory-making complimentary photo booth and revelry for all.”

To top it all off, Key City Public Theatre is holding a raffle, with two prize-filled baskets totaling more than $1,000 in value going to the winners.

FreddyPink offers an eclectic mix of a rock ’n’ roll drummer, a funk bassist, a fusion guitarist, a jazz horn section, a gospel keyboarder and three dynamic R&B singers.

New for this year’s ball is a four-course dinner, served an hour prior to the festivities. Tickets for the ball begin at $45, tickets for dinner with the ball are $70 per person, gratuity not included. Seating for the dinner is limited. Tickets are available online at

Discover the romance of new age music in Coyle

Concerts in the Woods hosts Scott Cossu and Lonnie Mardis for a piano and guitar Valentine’s concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12 at Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, Coyle. A suggested $15 donation benefits the artists.

Cossu has become familiar with Jefferson County after recently recording with Neville Pearsal at Synergy Sound in Chimacum Valley.

“We are so thrilled to have one of the original Windham Hill artists from the beginnings of new age music playing in Coyle,” said concert series organizer Norm Johnson. “And as an extra treat, his music will be enriched by the accompaniment of Lonnie Mardis on guitar, who knows Scott’s music well.”

Cossu affectionately calls his music “heavy mental” or “cosmic National Geographic.” Billboard magazine labeled him a “jazz luminary of the future.” His most recent CD, “Tides Between Us,” is dedicated to the Puget Sound region.

Mardis has performed as a guitarist from Sun Valley, Idaho, to Nagasaki, Japan. He resides in Seattle and recently was selected to compose for the Northwest Sinfonia Orchestra. The resulting piece, “El Espíritu de la Cancion,” is included on the album “Celebrate World Music,” which won the Independent Music Awards’ popular vote for best contemporary classical album.
