Harold was born in Port Townsend and grew up in Chimacum, graduating from Chimacum High School in 1954. He married Patricia Gleer and worked for Buck Mountain Logging Company as a boom man. He moved his family to Alaska in 1968 when "it got too crowded around here!" There he lived his dream of fishing for a living. His children Jim, Bill, and Kristie were all born in Port Townsend. His parents Bertie and Clifford, sister Janice, brother Ray, and wife Patricia all preceded him in death.
A private memorial will be held by the family.
