Gratitude to those who made it possible | Letter to the editor

My thanks are not enough.

I wish you could feel the joy and relief my two children have at being able to return to a classroom with peers, despite the masks and all day distancing. I wish you could see their faces lit up with excitement since returning to spaces that are made for them with caring adults who are deeply equipped to educate them.

The entire community made “in-person” school possible for my children this year. Each and every person who sheltered in place, missed out on special occasions, took in all of the conflicting information and made some sense of it, and allowed all of our lives to come first to keep our case numbers low in Jefferson County. And especially the tireless teachers and administrators who kept working through this pandemic because children needed them to evolve their learning models to fit this new time.

The pandemic is not over, but for right now my children are experiencing a tiny bit of “normal” child-centered life that is fortifying them.

For that I offer all I can; my deepest thanks.
