Seven ladies with the Discovery Bay Women’s Golf Club made their way to the fairway for a classic game of “Blind Nine” last week.

The rules for “Blind Nine” are essentially that only nine of the 18 holes on a course are counted toward participants’ final tallies, and the players don’t know what counts and what doesn’t until the end of the game.

After applying handicaps, Barb Aldrich and Cindy Westwood tied for the top spot with 34 points each, Donna Brown earned third with a 34.5, and Lynne Pierle came in fourth with 38 points.

Women from Discovery Bay and the Port Townsend Women’s Club are looking forward to their upcoming Memorial Scramble tournament this Thursday.

The event honors members of both clubs who have passed away in recent years, and celebrates their love for golf.

The two women’s clubs take turns hosting the annual tourney, and the event will be held this year at the Discovery Bay Golf Course. Teams for the scramble consist of two people from each club per squad, and play begins with a putting contest and ends with a luncheon provided by the hosts.

Rick Unrue, who opened a brand-new restaurant at the Port Townsend Golf Course, will provide lunch for the ladies this year.

Women from both clubs are eagerly looking forward to the tourney as they anticipate a day full of fun and fond stories of their golfing sisters who are no longer here.
