Just a cool side note from the Olympic League championship.
All the athletes from EJ either tied their best scores or beat them.
Alyssa Vandenberg of East Jefferson shot her best-ever 9-hole score (47) on her first time playing an 18-hole match during the league championship in girls golf in Sequim last week. She had 57 on the back for a 106 total, which put her in the middle of the pack for the girls.
East Jefferson’s Cade Martin had his lowest ever completion round (103) in boys varsity golf.
Coach Hazli Katsikapes also noted Lane Liske scored his lowest 18-hole round at 104.
To round out the EJ scoring juggernaut was Port Townsend’s Braley Phillips, who beat his best 18-hole score by two with a score of 79. He placed eighth overall.
“I am so proud. All four of these kids are new to competitive golf,” Katsikapes noted. “They made great strides in our short season.”
“All in all, I would classify this match a success. I’m so proud of our kids and also their conduct on the course,” he added.
