No one has to brave the underworld alone again this year.
As the hellish travails of the pandemic begin to lift, the denizens of the night can once more congregate at the Uptown Pub for An Evening Of Underworld Creatures on Friday, Oct. 28.
“We’ve always had a Halloween show at Uptown Pub and, actually, this is Lowire’s ninth year hosting,” said Katie Dalsimer, who does the booking for the pub.
The event went six-feet-under while the virus spread, but now they’re dusting off the grave dirt.
Lowire, a jazz-infused funk sextet, has been bewitching the fiends of the Uptown for more than a decade.
“We’re really excited to have them back,” Dalsimer said. “They’re a really, really fun band.”
On top of that, those who haunt Port Townsend may be familiar with many of the members.
“They’re all locals,” Dalsimer added.
The band recently released their self-titled first album which can be found on all streaming platforms for those who want to do a little paranormal investigation in advance. It’s also eerily affordable to own for only $7 on their website ptscene.com/lowire.
As important as the tunes are the costumes.
To inspire the freakiest out of folks, there will be cash prizes for the best costumes with $100 for first place, $50 for second, and $25 for third.
“The crowd chooses the winners,” Dalsimer said.
Dalsimer has chosen to go as a classic.
“Just a good old-fashioned bloody vampire,” she said.
The bar has already begun preparations.
“We’ve got lots of spooky ghosts up,” Dalsimer said. “There’s some dancing skeletons in the window right now, they’re kind of funny looking.”
As always, this 21-and-up event is free to attend, so even the most impoverished infernal beings are welcome to attend, but don’t drop into the abyss without tipping the tapsters.
