The Fourth of July marks the start of a weekend this year, so the Palindrome is turning it into a weekend-long get-together and celebration.
The Palindrome at Eaglemount Winery and Cidery is hosting a Fourth of July “Weekend Event” from July 4-6, complete with food, games and an open mic.
Although the Palindrome frequently hosts public musical performances and invitation events such as weddings, event organizer Angel Potete developed the “Weekend Event” with the aim of turning the venue into “a cool place to hang out.”
The Fourth of July celebration at the Palindrome runs not only from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, July 4, but also from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, and Sunday, July 6, so Potete hopes people will bring their friends and families out for the festivities.
Potete elaborated that July 4 will include a hot dog barbecue from 5-7 p.m., although she added that charcuterie and other snacks will be available, and she even invited attendees to bring their own picnic food. No outside alcohol is allowed on the premises.
The weekend-long event is also set to include free games, both outdoors — geocaching, lawn darts, horseshoes, badminton, volleyball and tennis — and indoors — wall darts, jenga, card games and table tennis.
“We’ve got all the classics,” said Potete, who further explained that the Fourth of July weekend will be followed by the Palindrome inaugural bar trivia every Friday at 4 p.m., and karaoke and spoken word open mics every Sunday at 2 p.m.
“Even when there’s no concerts or other events during a given weekend, we still want to turn this place into a hotbed of social activity,” Potete said. “Even before we hold our annual Halloween costume party in October, we’re looking at hosting a clothing exchange in August. In the meantime, we’ve got a karaoke machine and a stack full of trivia questions.”
Potete emphasized that the Palindrome’s goal is to be a family-friendly venue for all ages, offering a wide variety of entertainment in a pleasantly pastoral setting.
The Palindrome at Eaglemount is located at 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road in Port Townsend.
