Five youth in Port Townsend test positive for COVID-19

Five people under the age of 20 in Port Townsend have tested positive for COVID-19, Jefferson County public health officials reported Thursday.

All of the new cases confirmed Jan. 28 involved males.

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, 295 residents in Jefferson County have tested positive for COVID-19.

Officials said 32 people in Jefferson County were still awaiting COVID-19 test results Thursday, and 18 people remain in isolation. 

A total of 242 residents have recovered from COVID. According to the health department, 22 residents have been hospitalized after getting the coronavirus, and two deaths in Jefferson County have been attributed to the disease. 

Through Jan. 28, a total of 17,444 tests have been administered for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, and 17,117 tests have come back negative.

Through Thursday, 132 COVID cases have been found in Port Townsend residents; 135 in mid-county residents; and 28 in south county (Quilcene, Brinnon, and West Jefferson).

More females than males have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in Jefferson County; 150 females have been confirmed with the coronavirus, and 145 males.
