Farewell to lake-protector

I was recently saddened to hear that our community lost a true treasure. Cher Albright, who for some 40 years has lovingly watched over and taken care of Gibbs lake, has moved away. I did not know Cher or her husband well, but as acquaintances for a very long time. Their residence at the lake began when the Boy Scouts still owned it. When I first took my boys swimming there, she approached me and sternly announced that it was a private lake. Then she pronounced that as long as no scouts were in residence, it was alright to come swim. I have been swimming there daily every summer ever since, and my wife and I walk there nearly every morning. Over the years, Cher and her family lovingly made improvements to the lake and its environs, clearing paths, painting, picking up trash, and keeping order during more raucous summers. She was able to give you a history of the property, tell you where laminated root rot was taking hold, and when the Loons would return. Her tenure at the lake was long and loving, and I will miss her presence whenever I go.
