“Elite Eight” for Discovery Bay women’s golf club

The Discovery Bay Women’s Club golfers returned to action last Thursday, playing a round on the first nine holes of the Discovery Bay Golf Course.

Greeted by late-spring sunshine and warm weather, the women played a game of “Elite Eight,” which allows the participants to throw out the hole of their choice before calculating their net score.

Due to the course’s maintenance crew completing work on the greens and sand traps on the last nine holes, the ladies golfed on the first nine holes of the course.

The competition was tight, with Cindy Breed taking first place and Barb Aldrich finishing closely behind in second. Third place was shared by Jane Guiltinan, Roberta Krause, and Lynn Pierle in a tight tie for the bronze.

Another tie for lowest number of putts for the round was shared by Breed and Pierle.

With a nine-hole competition, play concluded early and the ladies enjoyed a Port Townsend lunch in town.

The club said the course and the greens at Discovery Bay are shaping up nicely for the anticipated annual Beat the Pro competition, which is set for Thursday, May 11.
