Election Day nears for 2020 Primary

In just a few short days the 2020 August Primary Election will come to a close and Jefferson County’s voice will have been heard through the democratic process. But, while the deadlines looms, most voters throughout the county are still mulling their choices. 

According to election officials, only 20 percent of the county’s active registered voters had returned their ballots to the Jefferson County Elections Division for processing as of Monday. 

Of a total 26,460 registered voters in Jefferson County, a total of 5,267 ballots had been returned, with 5,179 having been accepted for counting come Election Day. 

It’s not too late for latecomers, though, as in-person registration will remain open until 8 p.m. on Election Day at the Jefferson County Courthouse. 

Starting at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, the Jefferson County Auditor’s Office will announce local picks for the Position 1 and Position 2 seats in the Washington State House of Representatives as well as the 24th Legislative District seat in the state senate. Two seats on the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners are up for grabs this year as well. 

IN THE HOUSE

Battling for the Position 1 House seat are Sue Forde, who prefers the Republican Party; Daniel Charles Svoboda, who prefers the Trump Republican Party and; Mike Chapman, who prefers the Democratic Party. 

Running for the Position 2 seat in the House are Darren Corcoran, who prefers the Democratic Party; Jodi Wilke, who prefers the Republican Party; Steve Tharinger, who prefers the Democratic Party and; Brian Pruitt, who prefers the Republican Party.

IN THE SENATE

Vying for a Senate Seat are Kevin Ven De Wege, who prefers the Democratic Party and; Connie Beauvais, who prefers the Republican Party.

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

Running unopposed for the District 1 seat on the County Board of Commissioners is Kate Dean, who prefers the Democratic Party. Battling for the District 2 seat are Heidi Eisenhour, who prefers the Democratic Party; Lorna Smith, who prefers the Democratic Party and; Amanda Rae Funaro, who prefers the Democratic Party.
