I sincerely urge you to vote for Heidi Eisenhour for county commissioner.
I have known Heidi for more than 20 years. I met her when we both were involved with a coastwide marine conservation council whose goal was to support viable and sustainable fishing communities along the west coast. We had a tough battle, opposing industrial scale fishing efforts to the benefit of small fishing communities like Neah Bay; Port Orford, Oregon; and Morro Bay, California.
It wasn’t just that Heidi worked hard. She intentionally listen to all sides of an issue before suggesting how we (always we) might engage.
What struck me as I recollect the experience was how Heidi worked to integrate staff (she) and board (me) activities so that we were never at cross purposes as far as expressing the focus and mission of the organization.
Since moving full time to Port Townsend in 2006, I have followed Heidi’s career from executive director of the Jefferson Land Trust to her current position as chief financial officer of the Northwest Maritime Center. These are wonderful endeavors that Heidi has successfully lead. However when I think of Heidi, what comes to mind is her bright smile and the love that is always present.
I have felt included in so many of Heidi’s activities, to the extent that I have been initiated into Heidi’s magical circle of tamale rolling. It may sound trite, but in fact once you sit at the table, you are in for an experience of a lifetime.
And my guess is that once Heidi sits at the table of the county commissioners, they and we will have our lives elevated by her presence and hard work.
And so I strongly support Heidi’s candidacy and urge you to give her your vote this November.
