Eisenhour increases advantage in District 2 commissioner race | UPDATE

Posted

Heidi Eisenhour has put more distance between herself and the other two candidates in the race for the District 2 position on the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners.

Eisenhour was leading in the first vote tally on Election Day, and the second vote count on Wednesday saw the gap grow between Eisenhour and second-place finisher Lorna Smith and third-place candidate Amanda Funaro.

Eisenhour was in front of Smith by 349 votes after Wednesday's count; she led Smith by 280 votes on Election night.

A total of 393 votes were added to Eisenhour's total Wednesday. Eisenhour now has 1,597 votes, or 42.93 percent of all ballots cast.

Smith, who has a lock on second place and will advance to November's General Election along with Eisenhour, picked up another 324 votes in Wednesday's vote tally.

Smith's vote total increased to 1,248 after the second count, and she has 33.55 percent of the District 2 vote.

Funaro added another 223 votes to her total Wednesday. She had a total of 764 votes out of 3,720 ballots counted so far, or 20.54 percent overall.

All three candidates saw their overall percentage of the vote drop from Election Night during the second tally. That's due to the large number of write-in votes that affected each candidate's percentage of all votes cast.

A total of 111 write-in ballots have been processed so far by the Jefferson County Elections Division, and that number represents 2.98 percent of all ballots cast in the District 2 contest.

Only registered voters in District 2 could cast votes for the commissioner candidates.

In the 2020 General Election, voters across the entire county will cast ballots for the two commissioner seats on the ballot (Kate Dean is running unopposed for another term in District 1).

Turnout in Jefferson County was pegged at 48.88 percent after Wednesday's update.

A total of 12,952 ballots have ben counted, and county elections officials estimate there will be another 2,274 ballots to tally during the next vote update, which is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6.
