The Blue Heron Middle School cross-country team completed their fourth meet of the season last Wednesday at Lincoln Park in Port Angeles, with the girls team finishing second of three schools and the boys team taking third place.
A total of 15 athletes represented Port Townsend during the race on a wet and cold afternoon Oct. 6; nine girls and six boys.
Overall, the times continue to drop for almost every athlete this fall, according to Port Townsend’s coaching staff.
Head Coach Kim Clarke said she was thrilled to see another strong effort from her teams.
The girls team was once again led by Leah Ferland, who finished in sixth place overall with a time of 11:10.
Hilina Taylor-Lenz came in eighth place at 11:56, followed close behind by Sienna Emerson in ninth place at 11:57.
Rounding out the top five Point Townsend point-scoring runners were Lily Justis in 12th place at 12:21 and Emma Goodwin in 13th place at 12:21.
Other Blue Heron runners who participated included Bella Ferland and Willow Parvati (both with a time of 12:56), and Sophira Meyer and Crenna Stark (both with a finish time of 18:11).
The boys team continues to get faster.
One highlight of the meet was two Port Townsend runners finishing in the top five.
Grady White was first at 9:16, and Noah Isenberg finished in fifth at 9:47.
A.J. Ross came in 11th overall with a time of 11:05. Silas Lashlee came in 15th in his first competition with a time of 11:45, and Kai Ryan contributed team points with 18th place at a time of 11:53.
Also participating was Atom Barrett with a time of 12:21.
The team’s fifth cross-country meet will be is set for Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Blue Heron Middle School in Port Townsend. It will be a longer run, with a 2-mile event.
Coach Clarke looks forward to seeing how her runners adapt to a new challenge. The meet is currently scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. next to the track.
