East Jefferson runners close out XC season

The East Jefferson Cross Country team ran its final meet of the season at the league championship meet at Battle Point Park on Bainbridge Island Saturday, March 13.

The East Jefferson boys competed at noon on the fast 5k course under neat perfect race conditions. EJ was missing Max Allworth-Miles due to the SAT, so the team did not have the minimum of five runners to score as a team. However, all four EJ boys ran personal records (PRs) with sophomore Sebastian Manza placing 23rd overall in 18:28.0.

Notably, Manza has set a PR in every race he has run this season.

He was followed Saturday by freshman Ocean Smith and Braley Phillips who tied with a time of 23:05.5 and Indigo Gould with a time of 24:17.6 for East Jefferson.

Junior Kelton Gagnon from Klahowya won the race in a PR of 16:12.3 and the Port Angeles boys took the team title.

The girls race followed at 12:45 p.m. and EJ again didn’t field a complete team due to injury issues.

The race was won by senior Lauren Larson from Port Angeles in a time of 18:39.3.

The EJ team was led by freshman Aliyah Yearian who placed eighth overall with a time of 21:25.4. She was the fastest freshman in the girls race.

Sophomore Camryn Hines placed 15th overall in 21:59.5. She was followed by junior Lia Poore who was 46th overall with a PR of 25:57.8 and senior Gina Brown in 56th place (27:41.4).
