Earthquake Season and Out-of-Context Coyote Drawing

Posted

Despite being less than, but very close to a mile from the epicenter, neither Trish nor I felt the Thursday evening earthquake. We heard about it. It was, almost immediately, on the local TV news. "Near Lofall, on the Kitsap Peninsula," they said. Wrong. "Seventeen miles west-south west of Port Ludlow."  Then they showed a map with a bullsye. "That's us."

Now, others felt it; people in Port Townsend.  I continue to ask. "Yeah, my chair seemed like it dropped an inch or two." "It was like a pop."

Trish immediately went to "I've heard of Quilcene" on Facebook. At first we thought the center, once we ascertained it wasn't directly under us, was downtown, over by Arnie and Linda's. "Write them and ask what the heck they're doing," I said. A few minutes later, with posts piling up on the site, we concluded it was over by Janette's.

ANYWAY, I am going to write about this for, by request, a monthly newsletter being put out by the Quilcene Community Center. So, this is kind of a practice piece, no offense, AND, what I really wanted to write about is it's HIGH SEASON for painting, and I'm really too busy to write or draw or pretty much do anything but paint.

BUT, I wanted to have something for the blog, something non-controversial. AND, I just happen to have a drawing of a coyote. Though I live out in the boonies, I've actually only seen one or two in our 38 years or so out here. I KNOW, people in Port Townsend see them all the time. AND, they feel our earthquakes. AND, just to be a bit controversial, they drink our water. YEAH, I know; it's our water but PT owns it.  OKAY, now, just for a bit more stirring of the pot, let me just say...Tom Camfield.
