Eagles sneak past Rangers in boys varsity baseball

The Eagles outlasted the Rangers as Pope John Paul II School edged Quilcene 6-4 in boys varsity baseball late last week.

The Eagles took off with 1-0 lead in the first inning before Quilcene tied the game in the second.

A three-run fourth inning put Pope John Paul up, 4-1, and the Eagles held on for the win during the matchup Friday at the Regional Athletic Complex in Olympia.

Kevin Alejo pitched four innings for the Rangers, with four runs on four walks, five strikeouts, and one hit.

Alejo was 1-for-1 at the plate. He smacked a home run and finished with an RBI and two stolen bases.

Nate Keiffer finished 2-for-3, with four stolen bases and an RBI.

Aston Smith went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases for the Rangers.

The loss dropped Quilcene to 0-2.
