The driver of a car that rolled and injured three passengers Saturday night is in the Jefferson County Jail on charges of vehicular assault and hit and run injury.

Ross C. Nagy, 21, of Port Hadlock was booked into the jail at 8:21 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10. The accident occurred about 11:03 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, the cause of which is still under investigation.

According to the Washington State Patrol's initial incident report, Nagy was driving a 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Coupe westbound on Cape George Road about three miles from Port Townsend. In the 2100 block, where Cape George goes left after the Hastings Avenue intersection, the car left the roadway to the right.

Based on the accident scene and an unofficial report from a family member, the car went off the road onto an embankment and rolled at least once before coming to rest on its wheels upon Cape George Road.

The first motorist to come upon the scene took two of the car's passengers to Jefferson Healthcare in Port Townsend for emergency treatment.

According to the incident report, three passengers in the Oldsmobile required medical treatment:

Peter Gabriel Johnson, 19, of Port Townsend was transported by ambulance to Jefferson Healthcare and then taken by private party to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton for surgery to a hand injury.

Cody A. Hewitt, 20 of Port Townsend was transported by a Good Samaritan to Jefferson Healthcare in Port Townsend for treatment of a shoulder laceration and a head injury. He had been in the car's front seat.

Aaron E. Nolan, 18, was transported by a Good Samaritan to Jefferson Healthcare for treatment of multiple contusions.

The condition of Nagy, the driver, was unknown at 5:49 a.m. Sunday when the incident report was issued. Sunday he a turned himself in to the jail in Port Hadlock.

The initial accident report could not conclude whether seat belts were worn. Family members said the young men were wearing safety restraints.
