Don’t threaten dogs with violence | Letter to the editor

I’m writing in response to Lynne Stryker’s letter to the editor.

In her letter, which was really an open letter to another resident of Port Townsend, she stated that she would use Mace on a dog in a public off-leash dog area.

There are precious few places where we can take our dogs to exercise off leash legally. Everywhere else in town is designated as leash only. There are dozens and dozens of miles of trails in town and in the county and in the forest and on the beach where dogs must be leashed. If you cannot enter a dog park without threatening violence to a dog, you should refrain from entering that dog park.

I question the legality of using pepper spray on a dog in a public off-leash area, never mind the moral deficiency someone must possess in order to threaten to do so in a public forum.
