Donations needed for solar project | Letter to the editor

Post 26 of the American Legion has been proud to be a member of the Port Townsend Community. We are thrilled to be part of the film festival every year and are also happy to open our lower level to shelter use for citizens of our city.

Similar to many others, recent events have forced us to look at ways to adjust our budget in a long-term sense. Also, we are interested in clean energy.

To this end, we investigated the viability of installing a photo-voltaic solar system on the Water Street side of our roof. Cascadia has given us options for a system to offset half of our usage as well as a system offsetting all of our usage.

The amount required is just under $50,000 for the smaller system. The post has already identified $30,000 in donations from our membership. We humbly ask for donations from community members in order to make the project happen.

Please visit our GoFundMe site at https://gf.me/u/yg9s2m.

If you prefer, donations may be mailed to American Legion Marvin G. Shields Memorial Post 26, 209 Monroe St., Port Townsend, WA 98368.

As we are a registered nonprofit (501C 19), all donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Thanks in advance for your support!
