I am a fairly recent transplant to PT, and have become a regular walker of the streets and paths of my neighborhood, either side of Sheridan Street, between the hospital and Hastings Ave. I immediately noticed that one thing I can count on, besides encountering our four-footed plant-munching neighbors, is that in any given backyard I will probably see an old truck, boat or recreational vehicle, apparently being slowly absorbed by blackberry bushes. I know that everybody with more property than a condominium has a project, and I am no exception. But this part of town seems to be a storehouse of projects that have been on the backburner so long the flame has surely gone out on many of them.

I offer a suggestion: Rather than surrendering useful real estate to rusting metal, how about donating your old F-150, Chris Craft or Winnebago to a charity in exchange for a tax deduction? I know that our own KPTZ Radio station has a vehicle donation program, as do many other non-profits. You’ll be helping them do what they do best while lightening your own load. Win-win, right?
