Twice during the last four days, while walking my leashed Chihuahua, three off-leash dogs charged and intimidated us. Their owners watched it happen. Two of the dogs were much larger than my dog, and it was terrifying to see them coming straight for us.
This is the result of inconsiderate and negligent behavior by their owners. What makes these people think it’s OK to let their pet frighten and put an older person and her dog in danger? Dogs are unpredictable.
I fear for my pet and I worry about falling when someone else’s dog is out of control.
This has happened before, but usually the occurrences are months apart and not days. Most dog owners are considerate. Nevertheless, I now carry a stick, and our walks have become a time of stress and hypervigilance.
I just don’t understand why my dog and I can’t have a pleasant peaceful walk on the streets of Port Townsend.
