This past Monday, May 4, Port Townsend musicians Matt Sircely and Jonathan Doyle entertained residents and passersby in the parking lots of senior care centers Avamere at Port Townsend and San Juan Commons.
This coming Monday, May 11 at 2 p.m., percussionist Angie Tabor will set up her steel drums at Discovery View Retirement Apartments, at 1051 Hancock St. in Port Townsend, for another free concert.
When Doyle and Sircely played a selection of tunes for the seniors who were seated along the front sidewalks and looking on from their second-floor windows, San Juan Commons resident Pam Ekrem told event organizer Matt Miner the music lifted their spirits tremendously.
“Nice, talented guys and no rain; can't beat that,” Ekrem said of Doyle, who played solo clarinet, and likely would have been on the road with an assortment of touring jazz and swing groups if not for the coronavirus, and Sircely, who mixed things up by singing through his mask while playing mandolin and guitar. “We welcome them back anytime.”
Musicians interested in joining either the May 11 concert or any possible upcoming gigs may email Miner at mattminermusic@gmail.com.
