The Discovery Bay Women’s Golf Club hosted the annual Home and Home golf event, with a head-to-head matchup against the ladies of the Cedars at Dungeness Women’s Club.

The competitors joined up Thursday, July 21 in the sunny, pristine weather for a day of drives, putts, and chip shots, and the golfers welcomed 24 players and 12 teams to the event.

The Discovery Bay Women’s Golf Club fought hard on their home turf, but the Cedars at Dungeness Women’s Club came out on top with an overall score of 8.5 over the hosts’ 3.5 tally.

Some notable first-time wins in the event for the Discovery Bay ladies included Barb Aldrich, Terry Graham, and Dee Sweeney. Aldrich and Sweeney competed to the end, with each golfer winning her match on Hole 18. Cindy Breed of Discovery Bay also contributed to the final score by tying her match with the Dungeness competitor.

While the women of Cedars at Dungeness were awarded the Home and Home trophy for the overall win, ladies from both clubs won Closest to the Pin (KP) and Most Accurate Drive awards. Aldrich won the KP award on Hole 3 (11 feet and 1 inch), while Anne Elwell won KP on the same hole for a different division (24 feet). Additional KP winners include Marine Hirschfeld on Hole 14 (6 feet and 1 inch) and Lori Oakes (18 feet and 4 inches) on Hole 14. In addition to winning KP on Hole 14, Hirschfeld won the Most Accurate Drive accolade on Hole 9.

Following the Home and Home competition, ladies from both clubs enjoyed a buffet lunch together at the Discovery Bay course while the winners were announced.

The golfers celebrated the summer weather and rounded out the annual event with food and laughter. The club looks forward to competing in next year’s Home and Home event, which will be hosted by the ladies of the Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim.
