Why did you move to the Olympic Peninsula? Why did you choose to make Port Townsend your home?

We all have different reasons: It’s the gateway to the Olympics, hiking, biking, fishing, fresh air, abundant wildlife, fresh and salt water; so many blessings on this land and in our town.

Maybe you chose to escape the noise, traffic and the fast pace of the city. It doesn’t matter why; we’re all here because it’s a very special place.

To preserve the uniqueness of Jefferson County, the county developed an Environmental Growth Act and created zoning and codes to manage its future growth with intentions to preserve the environment and the special features contained within its boundaries.

Whatever you came here for, now is the time to stand up for its protection and to let your voice be heard for those that have no voice: wetlands, wildlife, woodlands, fresh and salt water bodies. They are counting on us!

Much has been said about the proposed development at Discovery Bay Golf Club and the appeal that is in process. This appeal isn’t just about one development; it’s about standing against a precedent being set which does not honor the long-term health and welfare of Jefferson County. If this proposal goes through, Jefferson County will be doomed to become another messed up sprawled out town.

Proper growth puts high density near towns with lower density in outlying areas, allowing for lower infrastructure costs; providing more efficient use of our county’s funds (our tax dollars).

Proper growth management ensures that Jefferson County’s infrastructure can keep up with growth and that maintenance of growth/infrastructure stays within budget (without unnecessary tax increases).

The development at Discovery Bay Golf Club, as proposed, is a huge mistake for this county now and for its future. Approval risks our health and wellbeing and stands against nature and all of its creatures.
